Michael impregnates Helen with a tacit agreement that he will eventually marry her. Engulfed by events in the city, he reneges on his promise, rather turning to another lady (Edith) whose father helped him establish a career path for courtship. Helen is shocked by the sudden news of Michaels action, attempting to commit suicide as a result. But upon serious counseling, she reclines and travels to the city in search of her babys father, a child Michael is vehemently denying responsibility.
